Ensis lay on the soft, warm sand of the beach, a gentle breeze ruffling his fur. The ocean was beautiful, he'd never seen anything like it. Living in the mountains his whole life, he'd only seen small lakes. This was incredible, he felt so small next to the seemingly endless waters. The scent of salt was rich in the air and the wind carried a fresh scent of fish.
He stood up, shaking the sand out of his fur. The sun felt so nice, so warm compared to the mountains. He'd been traveling for a few days to find a pack. Not wanting to live in the cold anymore, he left his birthplace to find a warmer region. Well, that wasn't really the reason he left.
He left because he had to. However, nobody but himself knows exactly what that means. He hated talking about it, and hated it even more to think about it. In his perspective, it was his fault.
Ensis trotted down to the water to quench his thirst. He hadn't stopped for a drink in a while and was starting to get pretty thirsty. He sat down near the water, jumping back when the waves rolled off the shore. Giving the water a dirty look, he bent down to get a drink. Salt water was a surprise, to say the least. A look of utter shock and disgust flooded over his face as he spat the water out. He jumped up and pawed at his muzzle, jumping around like a madman. "Clam down, it isn't that big a deal!" He scolded himself, embarrassed to have reacted like a foolish pup.
"I wonder if anyone is around here?" He questioned, sitting back down and curling his tail around himself. He stared out into the distance, watching the seagulls.
